I am Sonia Sanchez, and I am running for County Superintendent because I believe deeply and unapologetically that every child in Santa Cruz County deserves an education that sees them, supports them, and prepares them to succeed.

Supporting educators is not optional; it is essential, because when educators thrive, students thrive and our entire community rises together.

SUPPORTING FAMILIES

Just as importantly, we must support families as true partners in the educational journey. When families are informed, engaged, and connected to schools, students are more confident, more consistent, and more successful both in and out of the classroom. Strong family-school partnerships strengthen attendance, improve outcomes, and build trust, creating a ripple effect that benefits not only students, but the entire Santa Cruz County community.

With over a decade of experience supporting students and families in Santa Cruz County through various educational and county programs, Sonia has gained a comprehensive understanding of public education. Her expertise spans from K–12 classrooms to higher education, encompassing academic instruction and college readiness. She is well-versed in student mental health, family engagement, and data-informed decision-making, equipping her to guide schools in addressing current challenges and future needs.

Currently, Sonia serves as an IB Psychology Teacher at Nogales High School and an Adjunct Psychology Faculty Member at Pima Community College. These roles provide her with valuable insights into instructional quality, student support, and readiness for postsecondary education.
